Here at CCOG we have countless wonderful birth stories.
For new moms, retelling the story of their baby’s birth is an important component of the birth process.
Below is a birth story from a CCOG mom who delivered a beautiful baby girl, Cali, this past Spring. When asked if she would be willing to share Cali’s journey into our world, Amanda (Cali’s mom) jumped at the opportunity. Here is Amanda, Jason and Cali’s story and a few wonderful pictures.
Amanda, Jason, and Cali’s Birth Journey
After having a normal, healthy pregnancy…I started to go into labor on the morning of March 28th, 2012. It was about 5:30 in the morning I woke up with mild cramping, and just feeling odd. When I got up to go to the bathroom, my water broke…and I quickly called the CCOG office. As I was to be put on antibiotics as soon as my water broke for health reasons. I talked to one of the nurses, who had Dr. Plyler [ Michelle, one of CCOG’s midwives) get back to me, and I was told to come in asap. Upon arrival, it was confirmed I was in fact going into labor and my water had broke! I was so excited, but nervous at the same time! I had hoped for Jenny to be there, but she was off that day…and I was told that Filomena would be there to help me with my labor and delivery. Mind you, I only call Jenny and Filomena by their first name because I feel so close to them, and from no disrespect.
I would definitely say my labor went pretty quickly, and smoothly. Filomena helped me stick to my natural birth plan, although I was thinking of an epidural during labor. She kept me focused, and helped keep me going for the goal. We tried the shower technique, and that helped also. About 8 hours later, my daughter, Cali Elizabeth was brought into this world. I couldn’t thank Filomena enough for all her help, as she was a rock for me to keep going, as well as my husband. She was such an awesome person to have help me birth, and was always focused on me and my daughter…and what was best for us both.
It is now two months later, and we are doing awesome! Cali is getting so big, last we checked at our 1 month appointment, she weighed in at 10 lbs. We are going for another checkup, and will hopefully will be able to update you on her progress. We are still nursing, which at first, was a little bit of a challenge. She wouldn’t latch, and me being new as well…had a hard time figuring out how to get her to latch. We worked at it for quite a bit, and eventually we came up with our own technique and routine. She eats pretty much upon request, and I have little to no pain ever from nursing. On occasion there will be slight discomfort, but I am so happy we stuck through it together!!! She is gaining weight, and I love the closeness and bonding that come with it. I would definitely tell any first time moms to keep at it. Keep trying with your little one, and you will get the hang of it. I find I don’t even need any nipple cream now, and am lucky for that. I would be happy to help any new moms, or give advice if they would like it…anything at all.
I loved how the practice helped me to stay natural throughout my pregnancy and my birth. They stuck by my side 100% with the birthing plan, and that was amazing! I loved seeing the entire practice, but I always felt my needs were met by Jenny, Filomena, and Amy. They seem to take great pride in their work, and I commend them for that! We could not have done it without their help, support, and loving touch! CCOG is an amazing women’s health clinic! I loved my entire experience with them, and would hope to continue with them in the future. I would definitely recommend them to any who ask!
Here is Cali at 8 days old, and then at 1 month and 4 months
